Decisions Have Consequences
I have been thinking recently of the biblical idea that our decisions have consequences. The decisions we make today can sometimes have long lasting, and even unintended consequences. Consider the decisions of King Jehoshaphat. He made decisions to form an alliance with the wicked King Ahab. What was probably viewed as merely a political move, turned out to be a decision that nearly cost the Messianic line of kings (2 Chronicles 18ff). Jehoshaphat was a good king to be sure,

Indulgent Father, How Divine
The following hymn text was written by Asahel Nettleton and is found as Hymn 6 in his book, Village Hymns for Social Worship. Indulgent Father, how divine, How bright thy beauties are! Thro' nature's ample round they shine, Thy goodness to declare. But in thy nobler work of grace, What brighter mercy smiles In our benign Redeemer's face, And every fear beguiles! Such wonders, Lord, while we survey, To thee our thanks shall rise, When morning ushers in the day, Or evening veil

Honorable Christian Manhood (pt 3)
The need for Honorable Christian Manhood is great because the assaults on Honorable Christian Manhood are great. THE HOLLYWOOD ASSAULT Often if a character in a Hollywood movie is being chivalrous, it is sexually motivated rather than motivated by the noble quality of showing respect for the female gender. Hollywood has caused the continuous digression of true, honorable manhood and replaced it with caricatures of manhood. The prevailing mentality is that physical beauty in w
Great Hymn Texts of the Past
There is a God, who reigns above, Lord of the heav'n, and earth and seas; I fear his wrath, I ask his love, And with my lips I sing his praise. There is a law which he has writ, To teach us all, what we must do; My soul, to his commands submit, For they are holy, just, and true. There is a gospel rich in grace, 'Whence sinners all their comforts draw; Lord, I repent and seek thy face, For I have often broke thy law. There is an hour when I must die, Nor do I know how soon 'tw

Honorable Christian Manhood (pt 2)
God’s people have always been led by God’s men. From Adam, to Abraham, to Moses, to David, to Peter and Paul, and scores of others, God has historically used men to help lead and guide His people down paths of righteousness and holiness. All of those men were imperfect, and led imperfectly. However, their hearts were bent towards the things of God, exhibited both by their inward faith and their outward manner of living. Throughout church history, God has led men to be the pri

Honorable Christian Manhood (pt 1)
The number of honorable Christian men in our world is dwindling. This is not to say that there is a shortage of males in the world, but that the number of adult men who emulate biblical manhood is on the decline. Many men view manhood in terms of their sexual conquests, their physique, or their athletic abilities. Yet the Bible speaks of manhood in terms of spiritual and character issues rather than physical aspects. We see these things taught by means of example, description

A Hymn About Heaven
High in yonder realms of light, Dwell the raptur'd saints above, Far beyond our feeble sight, Happy in Immanuel's love! Pilgrims in this vale of tears, Once they knew, like us below, Gloomy doubts, distressing fears, Tort'ring pain and heavy wo. Oft the big, unbidden tear, Stealing down the furrow'd cheek, Told, in eloquence sincere, Tales of wo they could not speak. But, these days of weeping o'er, Past this scene of toil and pain, They shall feel distress no more, Never - n
